COVID-19 Update – March
Based on NEW closures and restrictions from Governor Jay Inslee today, we have decided to close ALL onsite and offsite adult events and classes. We truly feel that our staff, our students and our community’s health comes before anything else.
The Northwest Art Center will be temporarily closed as of Monday, March 16, 2020 for all classes and workshops. Our Studio on Main, drop in art studio, is also closed at this time. In addition, all booked parties, events, and private lessons during the closure time period will need to be rescheduled. We will re-evaluate in 3-4 weeks.
We are working on a plan where kids would be able to go online and get a lesson for the week with teachers so that we can keep classes still working on art – both fine art and digital art. This might involve each student picking up an art kit that they could bring home and then return tools later to NWAC.
As a small nonprofit, your monthly tuition goes directly to paying our teachers, rent, and supplies. We realize that virtual learning is a different model than most students are used to, but we are optimistic that students can receive some unexpected benefits. We are hoping to make videos for all of our weekly classes available to any enrolled student in our virtual online school! This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a wide range of projects and sample other classes from the comfort of your home.
We are formulating that plan right now and will present to all parents and students before their class time next week.
We plan on using our Facebook page to share free arts and crafts ideas for parents to do at home in addition to our private FB group where we will offer more substantial art curriculum.
This is a very difficult time for the arts and small businesses in general. Canceling events, refunding tickets and closing doors all have major repercussions. Please consider supporting them in whatever way or amount you can.
If you would like to help our tiny nonprofit, you can do so through direct donations: http://nwacmockup.com/donate/
Or you can purchase a gift certificate that we can mail out or hold on to for you to use when we re-open: http://nwacmockup.com/gift-certificate/
Please take a look at our Summer camps online now and it’s a great opportunity for you to plan ahead!
Clearly, this is a rapidly changing situation, and we will be monitoring the updates from public health agencies closely and reassessing our plans accordingly. Please continue to monitor our Facebook for NWAC and for Studio on Main so that you are staying up to date with the latest news.
Wishing you and your family wellness and creativity!
